NOTE: The only thing on this forum that you are required to read is the "Our Philosophy" thread.
Check the Adoptable Characters board before making a character. Someone might need a specific character to carry on a plot (it also helps you get involved easier and faster)! There are both abandoned characters and canons.
We have a "one character per account" rule. We will not allow anyone to have more than one person on each of their accounts, excepting with twins and children.
We allow the use of "NPC"s, a.k.a. characters who are played on the sideline and do not require their own account or in-depth application. If you use an NPC a lot, you might be asked to tell us a bit about them so that we can convert them into an available canon.
Your application title must be in this format: LAST NAME (in caps), First and Middle Name (in title case). All applications must be posted in the "Applications" board. From there admin will either move it to the "Active Characters" board (meaning it has been accepted) or to the "Inactive Characters" board with suggestions for acceptance. If you would rather the admins sent suggestions (if any) through PM, specify so somewhere in your application.
Two unrelated characters cannot have the same surname. It may not be highly unlikely, but it can get confusing. If you are unsure, check the accepted characters board -- it is organised alphabetically by surname.
Although we are going to be relatively strict with our standards, we welcome with open arms all beginners who are willing to take suggestions and try hard.
Being a Member
There will be occasional activity checks -- after all, activity is what keeps a roleplay going. If a character is consistently inactive or a member deletes their account, they will become adoptable. Highly plot-involved characters will probably have a shorter waiting time on this, as they are more likely to be needed to keep the story going. You have the option of requesting that your character not be put up for adoption under these circumstances, and that they instead be "killed" in-character for a seamless continuation of plotline: specify this preference in your character application if you have it, or PM an admin.
If you are going to be away for a while and unable to post, please try your best to get the message in. We have an away board, or you can post in the c-box or send out a PM. We would appreciate it a lot, and it might just save your character if you are going to be gone a long time.
No fighting or cursing in the out of character area or the chat box! Characters can fight all they want, but the war must stay in character and not leave it. This hasn't often posed a problem, but any time that it does, the perpetrator(s) will be promptly removed. Debates are fine, but be civil and be nice.
The maximum size for signatures is 603 pixels wide and 250 pixels high. Anything larger will make the forum look ugly, so it will automatically be scaled down.
If you are going to change the default font color, use one that can be seen on every skin. It's kind of mean to make users with such-and-such skin highlight your posts to read them.
Don't steal another person's work and claim it as your own. Ask for their permission and leave proper credit where credit is due.
Please don't 'bump' things.
Moderators of this community reserve the right of banning offenders from the boards, temporarily or permanently, without warning. You may receive an official warning beforehand, or you may not, at the moderators' discretion, based on the severity of the offence. We don't like to lose people, and will be stingy with these powers -- please don't make us do it!
Oh, and -- Smile. ;D
In the Roleplay
Please follow the plot and setting. We are leaving things astoundingly loose -- you've got thousands of years of historical cultural leeway and the added bonus of an alternate universe/fantasy setting. You aren't expected to be a history or culture expert, but please... no cell phones, machine guns or blue jeans? The admin might die of a heart attack if she sees something like that here.
Please try to adhere to the common courtesy of good roleplaying; that is: no godmoding, and no mary-sues or gary-stues. If you are a beginner and/or do not know what these things are (which is perfectly alright! If you are willing to put in effort, we welcome you), you will want to PM someone or post in the Questions & Support board and someone will be happy to explain.
We roleplay only in third person past tense. For example, "He walked down the street".
Deaths and major injuries resulting from a fight must be agreed on by both parties unless both players wish a staff member to dictate these things. We'll use dice rolls to decide; sometimes the added risk can make things more fun. There's a dice roll feature on our boards, but it's easy to cheat (but seriously, what fun would that be?)
We don't have a set post length, but would prefer at least two paragraphs -- something to work from. We all have our bad days, and sometimes when a thread has been going on for a long time things get slow, but we don't take one-liners and will suggest you add more content to your posts if it becomes a frequent issue.
Face claims cannot be cartoons -- this includes anime. Also, we don't want any myspace angle shots of emo kids... nothing against them, but it retracts from the theme here. You aren't required to use a faceclaim, or have a signature or avatar.
Spell check and grammar-check your posts, please. This includes proper capitalization. There is a spell check button on the bottom of all posts, and Firefox browsers have built-in spell check. If you don't like either method, you can also try typing and checking your posts in a word processor.
While the official rating of our site is NC-17 for purposes of creating a relatively grown-up community (I know so boring), the limit to content is in fact PG-13. If the thread progresses beyond PG-13, you must continue through email or some other off-site venue. I have no personal problem with it, but it's against the ProBoards Terms of Service to do otherwise and we could risk deletion. If/when two characters have been intimate, let an admin know so that they can decide on and PM you the aftermath. For example, whether or not it resulted in a pregnancy and any complications that will follow. Most often we will just ask you what you want or make suggestions for plot purposes, so no worries; in 95% of cases it is up to the players.
If you become a member, you certify that you agree to these rules and the ProBoards Terms of Service in full and will abide by them.
Thank you,
Alhambra Staff
